Año Nuevo: Holga Style

Posted in 120mm, Film, Holga, Nature, Photography by daybf on February 13, 2013

Last March my family and I went and saw the elephant seals at Año Nuevo State Park for the first time. Of course I have a million pictures from that trip with my “real” camera that I never edited or shared. It’s practically a year later and it took a random roll of Holga film to remind me of those forgotten photos. Someday they will make an appearance as well, but for now here’s Holga’s take on the trip. Since my Holga has such a point of view, I suddenly think that it needs a name…you know, like people name their cars (my car=Roxy). I’ll have to give it some thought…

This sequence of photos is exactly how they appear on the roll of film. All the overlap actually worked out nicely:

I love how the elephant seals just flop about. Pick a spot, flop down, and sleeeeeeeeeep.

Greyhound Rock: Holga Style

Posted in 120mm, Film, Holga, Photography by daybf on October 17, 2012

I’m on a total film kick ever since I started scanning my Holga 120mm rolls from the last 2 years. Today I’m showcasing photos from my favorite beach off of Highway 1: Greyhound Rock. This particular outing was accompanied by my good friend Sarah who I’ve known since way back when-high school circa 2002. I just realized that we must have met around this time a decade ago. Wow.

Quad Cam: Summertime Joy Still Upon Us

Posted in 35mm, Film, Photography by daybf on October 4, 2012

Summer has come and gone, but here in California October has only given us hotter weather. Here are some fun beach photos to commemorate that happy summer feeling that has drawn out through this Fall.

These photos were taken with my little 35mm quad camera. It has 4 lenses similar to this which takes 4 pictures in 1 second with 1 click of the shutter. So you end up with 4 images on each negative.

Enjoy!Image

Interstate 5: a snowy Portland-bound car adventure

Posted in Action, Event, Photography by daybf on February 18, 2011

Yesterday Shannon and her mom Sarah and I left for Portland Oregon! We left at 5:40 am and didn’t arrive until 9:20 pm. It was quite the trip! There was a ton of snow north of Redding in Shasta County and we stopped to buy tire cables (same idea as chains) but luckily we didn’t need to use them. I have hardly even seen snow since High School so I was happily taking pictures outside of the window and took some videos too. Finally around Weed, California the roads were pretty dry and normal, but it still was snowing. Of course I had to take some pics of Weed road signs, since it’s kind of an ongoing joke in California and we drove through it! Our last stop before Oregon was Yreka for lunch and then once we hit Oregon we were surrounded by beautiful trees and happy to be driving in nice weather!

We stopped at a gas station and Sarah went to pump the gas, but a gas guy immediately corrected her and told her that he must pump the gas, and then he washed the windows. He seemed a little irked that we were from California and didn’t really know what was going on, but hey, what can we say? We are new to the whole Oregon thing.

Here are pics from the road trip, most of which were taking from inside of the car:
