Just made my first gif! Pretty silly. This is my grandma throwing leaves in Delavan, Wisconsin.

Quad Cam: Mimosa Giggles

Posted in 35mm, Action, Film, Photography, Portraiture by daybf on October 21, 2012

Reminiscing girl time with Rebecca. She used to be my closest geographical friend (like 7 min away) but now lives out in Lindsay (3 1/2 hour drive) so we see each other every few months. Back in February Rebecca visited for a weekend and we planned a much needed ladies day out: brunch/mimosas at Kianti’s and The Vow. By the way, was anyone else slightly disappointed by The Vow? Maybe all the pre Valentine’s Day hype put a damper on it.

As seen through my quad cam:

Emilio’s Baptism

Posted in Action, Baby, Event, Photography, Portraiture by daybf on September 22, 2011

Back in July an old friend of mine asked me to photograph her son’s baptism. I had never been to a baptism before, so it was a neat experience to attend. It was also good low-light photography practice. Patricia looked beautiful, and her son Emilio was well behaved!

I’m mostly posting the live-action candid event photos and leaving the family photos out, but I had to post a photo of Emilio with his proud parents (last photo of the post).

99 Bottles: solving life’s most trivial questions

Posted in Action, Event, Photography by daybf on April 18, 2011

2011 has been filled with trivia! Santa Cruz has several different trivia nights, and nearly every week I go to 99 Bottles on Wednesdays, and Woodstocks on Thursdays. 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall‘s trivia starts at 8pm and has a variety of weekly theme questions such as name that sound, song, face, etc. Here’s a little compilation of 2 different nights:

I got Shannon to take one of me:

Quad Cam: Shannon in action!

I bought a new plastic quad cam at Powell’s Books, since something was wrong with mine. The pics turned out better!

Today I’m featuring Shannon during our Portland trip. Jumping on the hotel bed, hanging out in Chinatown, and making faces on the streetcar:

Zwickelmania, 3rd stop: Rogue Ales

Posted in Action, Event, Photography by daybf on March 4, 2011

My third and final stop for Zwickelmania was Rogue Ales Distillery. They gave a short tour of the small distillery where they make their rum, and then had one beer available for tasting along with a tasting of their Hazelnut Spice Rum for $1 (which I would highly recommend if you like rum).

Zwickelmania, 2nd stop: Crystal Ballroom

My second stop for Zwickelmania was the Crystal Ballroom, one of McMenamins many venues. The Crystal Ballroom holds concerts and dance lessons, etc, but the second story includes a brewery room. This is where McMenamins beer tasting took place and is seen below.

And lastly, here’s me! An Irish couple who drove to Portland for the weekend from Vancouver, Canada asked me to take their photo, so then I asked for the man to take mine.

Zwickelmania, 1st stop: Bridgeport Brewing

Posted in Action, Event, Photography by daybf on March 1, 2011

On my second full day in Portland I took part in Zwickelmania, which is an annual event where breweries open their doors to the public from 11am-4pm for tours and tastings. I didn’t really know about it until that morning, so I just looked up which participating breweries were within walking distance. So, I took a tour of a couple breweries in the Pearl/NW and got to taste some of the different beers. Today I’m just going to highlight Bridgeport Brewing, which ended up being my favorite.

Tour of the brewery:

Lots of hops!

I asked to take the bartender’s picture while he poured my tasting and then I continued taking pictures as he talked to someone next to me about how big he must look holding my little tasting glass.

Interstate 5: a snowy Portland-bound car adventure

Posted in Action, Event, Photography by daybf on February 18, 2011

Yesterday Shannon and her mom Sarah and I left for Portland Oregon! We left at 5:40 am and didn’t arrive until 9:20 pm. It was quite the trip! There was a ton of snow north of Redding in Shasta County and we stopped to buy tire cables (same idea as chains) but luckily we didn’t need to use them. I have hardly even seen snow since High School so I was happily taking pictures outside of the window and took some videos too. Finally around Weed, California the roads were pretty dry and normal, but it still was snowing. Of course I had to take some pics of Weed road signs, since it’s kind of an ongoing joke in California and we drove through it! Our last stop before Oregon was Yreka for lunch and then once we hit Oregon we were surrounded by beautiful trees and happy to be driving in nice weather!

We stopped at a gas station and Sarah went to pump the gas, but a gas guy immediately corrected her and told her that he must pump the gas, and then he washed the windows. He seemed a little irked that we were from California and didn’t really know what was going on, but hey, what can we say? We are new to the whole Oregon thing.

Here are pics from the road trip, most of which were taking from inside of the car:
