Quad Cam: Shannon in action!

Posted in 35mm, 365, Action, Film, Photography, Travel by daybf on March 24, 2011

I bought a new plastic quad cam at Powell’s Books, since something was wrong with mine. The pics turned out better!

Today I’m featuring Shannon during our Portland trip. Jumping on the hotel bed, hanging out in Chinatown, and making faces on the streetcar:

Dog and Master playing at dusk

9/365: My dad and dog Joya were playing in the backyard before sundown and I got a couple of shots. Due to the low light, the photo is f/5.6, 1/13 s (to get the blur, of course), at ISO 3200 (hence the noise).

Shaina skipping stones

8/365: Shaina came and spent the day with me yesterday and she’s never been to my house before. So, we had endless cups of tea, and I took her to the river nearby where I learned she’s a pro at skipping rocks!

Twin Lakes Beach at sunset

7/365: Sun setting behind the Walton Lighthouse as seen from Twin Lakes Beach. I sure do live in a beautiful place!
Pick of the day:
It’s amazing how much the light changes during one sunset.

Super Bowl Sunday

6/365: I had to highlight the American tradition of Super Bowl Sunday for my pic of the day. My mom made hummus from scratch, along with a vegetarian chili. Pair with some chips and salsa, and we have ourselves a little Super Bowl feast! Here is my beautiful mother with her Super Bowl treats:

Joe’s birthday present

Posted in 365, Photography by daybf on February 5, 2011

5/365: Yesterday was my boyfriend Joe’s 23rd birthday. He suggested I make him a mousepad for a present because his is old and he knows I like my art projects, especially when I’m making something for someone else. So, I started out by making a collage out of various magazine clippings. Then I scanned the collage, did a little editing, and printed it out on glossy photo paper. Next I cut the print to the size of a mousepad and covered it with contact paper to make it nice and smooth and shiny. I was pleased with the combination of the glossy paper and the glossy contact paper because it made all of the colors really pop. Finally I glued the design to the mousepad using Modge Podge glue (my favorite for collaging). I was a little worried it wouldn’t stick, but I put some heavy books on it for a day and it turned out fine!

Here is the original collage:
And the final result:
In use!

San Jose park

4/365: Ran an errand for my dad in San Jose today and ended up on S 1st St. Photo of the day is of a little park in the middle of the street. Each side of the street is one-way with this park in the center separating the two sides. I hope that makes sense…

It’s always interesting when there are all of these nice places to sit and hangout and there is one lone person:

“work wanted”

3/365: Bulletin board/wall between the CVS and Safeway in Felton. I know it’s pretty cliche, but also a classic.
Others:
I almost chose this one as the one for the project…

I also loved the shadows and textures of this one:
